Negotiating boundaries

June 5, 2007 · 4 Comments

An interesting discussion has come up in the group about making public the stories and artifacts of this Knowledge Expedition. This question of what’s public and private always arises when you start using new technologies and, for me, is intricately bound up with lots of questions, including memory, story-telling, trust, and legitimacy.

I can identify with something Nancy White suggests – that “negotiation of what we want public or private is all I need to be comfortable with public.” Focusing on negotiation brings the issue of public and private back to a people and process issue rather than a legal or technical one.
